12/11/2007 The White County Community Foundation is honored to announce the establishment of a permanent endowment fund in memory of Louis F. Blum, founder and owner of Alloy Custom Products.
Louis Blum, known for his entrepreneurial determination and community support, died in October, 2006 at the age of 55.
Nancy Blum united with Alloy employees to establish the Louis F. Blum Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of his leadership and dedication to his family, employees, company, and community.
The fund was initiated with proceeds from the company's fourth annual golf outing, held this year on Sept. 22.
Alloy Custom Products customers, suppliers, friends, and family presented a total of $20,000 to open the fund.
Alloy President and General Manager Ted Boatman noted that "the scholarship concept really brought out the supporters. All of the participants were very generous, and Alloy provided matching dollars.
The combined total exceeded our expectations and approached $20,000. At that time, Alloy decided to contribute more and round up the total to an even $20,000."
Alloy Sales Engineer Ryan Moulton, primary organizer of the tournament, was equally pleased. "We had 70 players, some from as far away as Arizona, Texas, and Ohio. The outing is always good, but this year it had new meaning."
The scholarship is to be awarded for post-secondary education of a graduating Twin Lakes High School student and a Delphi High School student.
The eligible students must be pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at Purdue University or a welding certification from Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.
Mr. Blum utilized his own mechanical engineering degree from the University of Florida to successfully establish and grow the Alloy business, which employs many welders in its manufacture and repair of cryogenic tank trailers and pressure vessels.
